AUGUSTA (WGME) — Ratepayers and solar power supporters are rallying against Central Maine Power’s proposed solar tax.
Wednesday night’s protest in Hallowell is urging the Maine Public Commission to reject CMP’s request to raise the cost of solar power in the state.
CMP is proposing an increase in fixed monthly charges and a “standby charge” for customers with renewable energy systems.
Opponents of the proposal say it penalizes customers who wish to save money by using solar panels.
A second protest is scheduled tomorrow evening in Portland, before the PUC hearings on the proposal.
